TMI Tuesday #13

1. By what nickname(s) were you known as a child?
I can't really think of any at the moment. I really only got called Adam, or Addo, for short. I don't think there were any nicknames as such.

2. Do you have a favorite poem and, if so, what is it? Recite it (or a snippet) here, please.
One of my favourite poems would have to be "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It is such a long tale and there are many facets to the story behind it, but I always remember the verse;

Water, water every where
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water every where,
Ne any drop to drink.

Another favourite of mine is "The Charge of The Light Brigade" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
23 Cannons in front of them
Volley'd & thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,

Into the mouth of Hell

Rode the six hundred.

Take your pick. Both are classics in my book.

3. What is your greatest regret in life, something that you failed to do that you wish you did?
I try not to live with regret, but if there was something that I wish I had persued when I was younger, it would have to be a career in the literary field. I was talked out of it at school despite winning some writing awards. I was told that writing wouldn't pay the bills and I would be better served with a more 'conventional' career. Thank God for blogs, hey?

4. You are tired and hungry, but it's too late to cook. If any snack food were available to you, what would you choose and why?
If we are talking fast food then I find it hard to go past Subway. Pure snack food would have to be a bag of potato chips (crisps). There's nothing better for devouring on the couch while watching TV.

5. What is the oldest item of clothing (not jewelry!) that you wear regularly and what do you love about it?
I have many old concert T-shirts, some from over 20 years ago, that I love to wear and can't bear to part with. The ones that are a little past it and not fit for public viewing get to rest peacefully in the bottom of the shirt drawer. They have to many memories to throw them away. "Rock and Roll will never die".

Bonus (as in optional):Name a movie or TV show that changed your thinking or behavior.
2001:A Space Odyssey. I think it was the first film that I saw that didn't just tell a story. Partly abstract, partly linear story, I have read and heard so many interpretations of what it all means and not one of them is definitive. The idea of something monitoring man's progress appealed to me as a teenager discovering life for himself.

Please excuse the formatting. I have had a hell of a time trying to get it looking right and nothing seems to work. Short of deleting and starting again, I am at a loss as to what is going on. Even spellcheck seems inactive.

I loved that Coleridge poem when we studied it in Year 12 English, indeed a classic.

I have a Barry Manilow t-shirt that never sees the light of day but it is a great reminder of a fantastic concert.

Happy TMI!

I remember that Tennyson poem from watching The Little Rascals on TV. Funny stuff, those Rascals!

Excellent classic poems!

I finally moved the old concert T-shirts to a box in the attic. Out of sight, but still here.

Happy TMI!

Sexy Duet & Bunny-
Thanks for your comments, and I am glad to see that I am not the only one who can't part with concert t-shirts.

Sheen V-
I don't think I am familiar with The Little Rascals. I must have missed that one.

SeaRabbit-
It's a hard call. Should one follow their heart, or pay their way. In the ideal world we would all make a living doing the things we are most passionate about.

Zoely-
I'm glad that it is better for you, but you should be getting a red background to make things easier still.
